Judy Has Landed!

Judy Pollard Smith and her husband, John, have just arrived in Topeka, Kansas! We are very excited to have them visit all the way from Ontario, Canada. During her stay, Judy will present to multiple classes at Washburn Rural High School about Alice Seeley Harris, her research for her book, Don't Call Me Lady: The Journey of Lady Alice Seeley Harris, and her process as a writer. Tonight, we will be having dinner with Judy and her husband to get acquainted, and then tomorrow (Monday), we will spend the day finalizing Judy's presentation and filming a sit-down interview with Judy for our upcoming documentary. On Tuesday, we will have 4 separate presentations held in the library for teachers to bring their students to.

Sarah, Mr. LeDuc, and I drove to the Kansas City airport to pick up Judy and John. It was surreal to meet the person with whom we've been emailing back and forth for months! Judy and John were excited to be in Kansas...Judy even wore red shoes! We're honored that Judy and her husband would make the trip. A few months ago, the whole trip idea was just a "what if?" question; we never thought we could actually make it happen! Special thanks to everyone who's made this whole trip possible, espeicially Mrs. Sandberg and Mrs. Zeckser in the Washburn Rural High School library. We are very excited to see where the project goes next!
