About Our Project

We are a small group of four from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kansas. Our group is composed of seniors Avery Stratton, Alexis Balaun, Sarah Erickson, and Haley Swedlund. Our project supervisor and art teacher is Brad LeDuc. Additionally, we've been working with professional videographer Josiah Engstrom to enrich our knowledge of filmmaking.

We are currently working on an entry for the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes competition. Upon watching a documentary on the Congo, Alexis Balaun, one of our team members found Alice Seeley Harris. Alice's heart-wrenching photos were showcased, but not much was said about the person behind the camera. Intrigued by this brave woman, Alexis presented her to our group and we knew that she would make the perfect focus for our project. We have chosen to showcase Alice’s story in a documentary setting. Our goal is for our work to shed light on Alice’s story and give her the commendation that her bravery so very much deserves.
