Judy Pollard Smith Author Visit

We are very proud to announce the upcoming visit of author Judy Pollard Smith, who wrote the book, "Don't Call Me Lady: The Journey of Lady Alice Seeley Harris." Judy and her husband will be visiting Washburn Rural High School from April 19 through the 21. Judy will share her story with WRHS students in the library.

We're honored to know Judy, and our project developments certainly would not have been possible without Judy's generous efforts. We first came into contact with Judy about a month ago, after she was forwarded an email from Rebecca Seeley Harris, Alice's great granddaughter. When Judy emailed us, we were just working up the courage to leave a comment on one of her articles on booksbywomen.org, so imagine our surprise when she reached out to us! We've been corresponding with Judy over the last month, exchanging information, and getting more and more excited with each correspondance.

We've recently met with the WRHS librarians and they have been generous enough to put together an author visit for Judy to come in April. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped in process; it's been a blessing being able to work with so many passionate and caring individuals.

"Don't Call Me Lady" is a creative non-fiction book based on the research that Judy conducted over the span of 9 years, including a visit to England to further her research. After reading a very brief article in Globe & Mail over Alice's story, Judy was hooked on her untold story. Judy calls Alice the mother of all human rights work, which is exactly as our group has come to see it. We are very excited to meet Judy in person, and can't wait for this visit to develop our project further.
